In a high-scoring encounter played at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 12 runs. LSG won th﷽e toss and elected to bowl first in Match 6 of IPL 2023.
MS Dhoni’s CSK set a mammoth target of 217/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored for the hosts with a blistering knock of 57 runs off 31 deliveries, which included 3 fours and 4 sixes. Devon Conway also played a crucial knock of 47 runs off 29 balls. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, taking 3 wickets for 4ꦚ9 runs in his 4 overs.
In response, the touring party started off strong with Kyle Mayers playing a brilliant knock of 53 runs off just 22 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. However, the KL Rahul-led side lost wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 205/7 in their allotted 20 overs, falling short of the target by 12 runs.
Moeen Ali was the standout bowler for CSK, taking 4 wickets for 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Tushar Deshpande also chipped in with 2 wickets for 45 runs in his 4 overs. In the end, CSK’s all-round performance proved too good for LSG as they secured a well-deserved victory in their homecoming game.
