Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was once again at his top, helping India comeback after Australia’s run-fest, courtesy of Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green on Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Test.
Australia continued their first innings from overnight score of 255/4. Khawaja, who had alrওeady reached the triple-figure mark, kept the run-flow going along with Green, who was unbeaten at 49 on the opening day. The duo put together a partnership of 208 runs for the fifth ဣwicket and were looking to cruise further as Green smashed a brilliant century.
However, Ashwin used all his experience and broke the partnership by dismissing Green for 114. The ace Indian spinner continued the attack and eventually finished with six wickets for 91 in 47.2 overs, including 15 maidens. Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy contributed with useful runs, taking Australia’s total to a mammoth 480. Khawaja was the top scorer for the visitors with an impressive 180 off 422 deliveries, including 21 boundaries.
In response, India began their innings cautiously and managed to survive the first 10 overs without losing a wicket. Captain Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Shubman Gill played some good strokes and took India to 36/0 at the stumps. Rohit was unbeaten on 17 o💜ff 33 balls, including 2 boundaries, while Shubman was not out on 18 off 27 balls, including 1 four and 1 six.

I think Ashwin’s true worth is is these thankless 5-wicket hauls in t♋he first innings on dead pitches. No one remembers them but they make a big difference. When somebody has got to do it, Ashwin does.
