Bangladesh defeated England in the first T20I of the o𒀰ngoing three-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday, March 9.
The hosts, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first and restricted the tourists to 155/6 in their allotted 20 overs. England’s Phil Salt and captain Jos Buttler, however, started bril𝔉liantly a𝓰nd added 80 runs for the opening wicket.
Salt was dismissed for 38 off 35, but Buttler kept the run-flow going. The English skipper smashed a brilliant half-century, scoring 67 from 42 deliveries, with the help of 4 four and as many sixes. Bangladesh bowlers showcased discipline in the bowling and didn’t allow England to capitalise after their stunning start. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the Banglade🐻shi bowlers, taking two ꦦwickets for 26 runs in his four overs.
In response, Bangladesh lost a few wickets in quick succession, but Najmul Hossain Shanto kept his stand alive and scored a blistering 51 off 30 balls, including eight boundaries. Shakib Al Hasan also chipped in with an unbeaten 34 off 24 balls, including six boundaries, as Bangladesh chased down th💙e target with two overs to spare.
“Towhid batted really well. I just watched the ball and played cricketing shots. I wasn’t thinking about those two wickets. The way all the bowlers bowled, it was outstanding, especially Hasan and Taskin. I just had to bat normally. Rony and Litton started well, it helped the other batters,” said ꧟Najmul Hossain after baggin🎶g the Player of the Match award.
