In a one-sided encounter, Bangladesh defeated Ireland by a massive 77 runs in the rain-effected second T20I at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. W﷽ith the victory, the hosts also took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the thr🔴ee-match series.
Put into bat in the 17-overs per side contest, Bangladesh’s top order piled on the runs from the start. Litton Das was the standout performer, smashing 83 runs off just 41 deliveries, including 10 fours and 3 sixes. Rony Talukdar and Shakib Al Hasan also made significant contributions, scoring 44 and 𝐆38 runs, respectively. Thඣe home team finished their innings on a mammoth 202/3 in 17 overs.
In response, Ireland got off to a terrible start, losing opener Paul Stirling without scoring on the first ball of the innings. The middle-order batters failed to deliver, and the visitors were reduced to 125/9 in their allotted 17 overs. Curtis Campher smashed a valiant fifty, butꦚ it was not enough to pꦑrevent the inevitable.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers, taking five wickets for just 22 runs in his quota of four overs. Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud also chipped in with three and one wickets each.
“Feels good to be on top as a Bangladeshi. We wanted to put up the same performance we did in the past few games, and we did it well. If we want to be a great side, we have to go out there and express ourselves from ball one. That’s what we discussed and agreed that’s how we’re going to play,” said Shakib after the match.
