Team India captain Rohit Sharma etched his name in record books on Friday (February 10) as he became the first 🌃Indian sk๊ipper to hit a century in all three formats of the game.
By registering his maiden Test ton against Australia on Day 2 of the four-match series opener in Nagpur, Rohit created history. The right-handed batter achieved the milestone in his third Test as I෴ওndian captain and 46th overall.
After reaching the triple-figure mark across formats, Rohit has now joined former South African skipper Faf du Plessis, Tillakaratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s Babar Azam in the elite list.
Rohit has been scoring runs at good pace in the ongoing Test, having completed his half-century at a strike rate of over 80 and ending Day 1 at a score of 56 off 69 balls. He batted sensibly o🅺n the second day and pulled off his 9th hundred in the red-ball fౠormat in 171 balls.
Apart from Rohit, other Indian batters struggled to score runs on the spin-friendly Nagpur pitch. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav all departed without contributing much with the bat as debutant Todd Murphy ran riot.
Murphy picked four wickets in India’s first innings by the time Rohit reached his triple-digit score.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Rohit Sharma’s record ton:
