India’s star opener KL Rahul hasn’t been in great touch and is under fire for his poor performance in the Test format. He even failed to impress in the first two matches of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 against Australia.
While many former cricketers and fans are attacking Rahul for his bad form, veteran India cricketer K. Srikkanth also expressed his views regarding the Karnataܫka ♔batter but in a distinctive style.
Speaking to TOI, Srikkanth said he has a lot of admiration for Rahul, but things aren’t going well for the 30-year-old right-handed batter, and he should take some time off the field. The world cup-winning former cricketer also hailed Rahul with the prefix’ Rolls Royce” and added that if he was the head of the selection committee, he would have approached the latter and asked him to take a break from the game for a while.
“I have tremendous admiration for the class of Rahul, in fact I call him Rolls Royce Rahul”, but it is just not happening for him at the moment. If I was the chairman of selectors, I would have gone up to him and told him to take a break for a while,” said Srikkanth.
Srikkanth further told that he feels the issue with Rahul is more of a mental sta🥂t♓e and not technical.
“I cannot pinpoint a technical deficiency in his game at the moment. I think this is more mental and all Rahul needs to do is take a break and sort his mind out. There’s no reason why he can’t come back all guns blazing,” he added.
At last, the veteran cricketer said that in-form Shubman Gill should get a chance in the team instead, as k﷽eeping a deserving p𒀰layer waiting is not right.
“But with all due respect to Rahul, it is time to play Shubman. You can’t keep a player waiting when he is in the form of his life.”
