India made history on Sunday as they registered biggest victory (by runs) in 50-overs international cricket. This record feat was achieved during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, cementing India’s place in the annals of cricketing history.
India thrashed Sri Lanka by a heavy margin of 317 runs, surpassing New Zealand’s 290-run victory over Ireland in Aberdeen in July 2008. Before this, India’s biggest victory in terms of runs came against Bermuda during the 2007 World Cup ꦿin Port of Spain. In that 💟game, India defeated Bermuda by 257 runs.
Chasing India’s mammoth total of 390/6, Sri Lanka were bundled out for a paltry 73 in 22 overs. Mohammed Siraj was responsible for wrecking havoc in the Sri Lankan camp with figures of four for 32 in 10 overs. Mohammed Shami (2/20) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/16) did the rest of the damage.
India’s historic win was perfectly set up by Virat Kohli’s 46th ODI century and Shubman Gill’s second in the 50-overs format as the hosts posted a mammoth total on the board. Kohli hit an unbeaten 166 off 110 while Gill gave India a perfect start with 116 from 97 deliveries. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer also played valuable knocks of🉐 42 and 38, respectiv🥀ely.
