The second match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup turned out to be a thriller as Netherlands edged past UAE by three wickets in the final over.
After opting to bat first, UAE struggled with the two-paced nature of the pitch, with Muhammad Waseem (41 off 47) top-scoring in their 111-8. Bas de Leede pitched the ball in right areas and claimed three wickets in the 19th over to finish with 3/19, while Fredrick Klaassen scalped 2 for 13.
In reply, Netherlands made a rapid start, racing to 37-1 in four overs. But they lost regular wickets thereafter.
South Africa-born Colin Ackermann lost his wicket against 16-year-old Aayan Khan – the youngest player to feature in the Men’s T20 World Cup – with score reading 71-4.
The game seemed to be moving in UAE’s favour when Junaid Siddique, in the 13th over, sent Tom Cooper and Roelof van der Merwe back to the dug out. However, a dropped catch from the UAE captain CP Rizwan proved costly from them as Tim Pringle – who got the life – went on to add 27 runs with the Dutch skipper Scott Edwards.
Pringle got out in the penultimate over but Edwards – who remained unbeaten on 16 – took his side over the finish line with Logan van Beek (4 not out).

Belting start to the , and another reminder that there’s no good cricketing reason for the teams who come through the qualifier to have to qualify🎶 again to get to play the top 8.🏏🇳🇦🇱🇰🏏🇳🇱🇦🇪
