Glenn Phillips’ blistering ton and Trent Boult’s superb four-wicket haul helped New Zealand thrash Sri Lanka by 65 runs in their Super 12 fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.
Phillips, who walked in to bat after the dismissal of in-form Devon Conway, guided his team to a respectable total as the Black Caps lost their top-three wickets for just 15 runs. Phillips smashed a 61-ball century and 🍎got out on 104 in the 20th over.
Chasing 168 for victory, Sri Lanka got off to a terrible start, with the team losing four wickets for a meagre total of eight runs. New Zealand’s left-arm pacer Boult was the wrecker-in-chief as he made the Sri Lankan batters dance to his tunes. He picked up four wickets and conceded just 13 runs, registering his best figures in T20 internationals. For Sri Lanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa (34) and captain Dasun Shanaka could only show some fight against of the 2020 finalists.

A century off 61 balls for Glenn Phillips. New Zealand were 15/3 after four overs, when he decided to take matters in his own hands. He's only the second batter after Rilee Rossouw to bring up triple figures in this tournament. Phenomenal innings!

Wickets of one opener, the No. 3, No. 4 and the No. 7 Shanaka in a spell of 4-13 for Trent Boult defending a medium-size target. He'll feel unlucky not clinching that MOTM award
