In the opening game of the Super 12 stage between Australia and New Zealand, Glenn Phillips put his case forward𒀰 to become the contender for the best catch of the ongoﷺing T20 World Cup 2022.

It all happened during Australia’s chase of the massive total of 200 set up by the Black Caps after being asked to bat first. Phillips displayed his jaw-dropping fielding effort on the second ball of the ninth over bowled by Mitchell Santner when Marcus Stoinis went for a biggie.

Stonis made room and went inside 🧜out over cover with the drive by chipping it in the air. The ball was well wide of the fielder at sweeper and would have droppedဣ safely, but Phillips had some freakish plans.

The New Zealand superstar ran across from the deep, threw himself at the ball, went two-handed and held onto an absolute screamer, ensuring the white leather didn’t pop out as he hit the turf.

Even the commentators were left flabbergasted as they couldn’t believe how Phillips pulled such a stunning effort to cut short Stoinis’ innings.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” said former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull in the commentary. Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson added: “You are joking. That’s what dreams are made of.”

Earlier, the Black Caps posted 200/3 in 20 overs thanks to a tremendous knock by Devon Conway and valuable contributions from Finn Allen, Kane Williamson and Jimmy Neesham.

Conway smashed an unbeaten 92 from 58 deliveries with the help of seven fours and two sixes. Similarly, Allen scored 42 off 16 balls, including five fours and three maximums, while Neesham made an unbeaten 13-ball 26. Captain Williamson (23 off 23) also stayed well in the middle and joined hands with Conway for the crucial 69-run partnership for the second wicket. For the hosts, pacer Josh Hazlewood picked up two wicജkets for 41 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
