Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from T20I cricket. The 35-year-old took to social 💦media to share the news with his fans. In the p🍌ost, Rahim revealed the reason behind his decision to retire from T20Is as he wants to focus on Test and ODI cricket going forward.

He also addไed that he will be continue to play franchise league cricket.

“I would like to announce my retirement from T20 INTERNATIONALS and focus on Test and ODI formats of the game. I will be available to play franchise leagues when the opportunity arrives. Looking forward to proudly represent my nation in the two formats,” Rahim said in his post.

The announcement comes after Bangladesh got eliminated from the ongoing Asia Cup without a win to their name.

Rahim represented Bangladesh in 102 T20I matches, in which he scored 1500 runs with six half-centuries and the highest score of 72 not out. However, in the 2022 Asia Cup, he failed to impress and returned on scores of 1 and 4 in Bangladesh’s Super-6 encounters against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

Rahim’s retirement is a second blow to the Bangla Tigers ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Earlier this year in June, their star opener Tamim Iqbal too hanged his boots from T20I cricket to concentrate on the lonꦕger formats.
