In the 33rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Chennai Super Kings (▨CSK) defeated Mumbai﷽ Indians (MI) in a last-ball thriller at ♉Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on ꦉThursday.
Chasing 156, the Super Kings got off to a bad start, losing two wickets for just 16 runs in 2.3 overs. Before MI could capitalise further, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu joined hands to take CSK out of hot waters.
The pair added a crucial 50-run stand for the third wicket and was looking to cruise through before Jaydev Unadkat ruined their plans, dismissing Uthappa (30) in the 9th over. The Super Kings soon lost Shivam Dube (13) as wellꦡ, but Rayudu kept his stand alive to ensure CSK 🍃stayed in the fight.
But in the 15th over, Daniel Sams, who had already taken three wickets, got rid of Rayudu (40) to pick up his fourth wicket of the game. CSK soon lost captain Ravindra Jadeja to get reduced to 106/6 in 15.4 overs.
Then, MS Dhoni and Dwaine Pretorius took the game deep and brought down the equation to 17 needed off the final over. MI started well with Undadkat dismissing Pretorius on the first ball. But Dhoni dis🧔played his vintage avatar and took CSK home by hitting one six, followed by a couple of fours in the final three deliveries.
Earlier, Tilak Varma powered Mumbai to a fighting total after the team got off to a horrible start. CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary sent shockwaves to MI camp as he removed both openers Rohit Sharma and Ish♊an Kishan for ducks in the very firsဣt over of the match.
MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Tilak held his end alive and continued scoring crucial runs. The youngster smashed an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls with the help of five boundaries, including a couple of sixes, as Mumbai managed to post 155/7 in 20 overs. Apart from Tilak, Suryakumar Yadav (32) and debutant Hrithik Shokeen (25) chipped in with valuable contributions.
For CSK, Choudhary bagged three wickets for 19 runs in three overs, while Dwayne Bravo pic༒ked up a couple of scalps for 36 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
