The newly-formed IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed Australian pacer Andrew Tye for the upcoming season. He is a like-to-like replacement for England speedster Mark Wood, who was ruled out of🌊 IPL 2022 after suffering an elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies.
The Super Giants had bought Wood for a hefty amount of INR 🔴7.50 crore at the mega-auction in February.
“Scan results have confirmed that Wood has a right elbow injury. He will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his injury,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Tye was a part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) squad in IPL 2021 but💞 had to pull out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
The 35-year-old won the Purple Cap award, clinching 24 wickets while representing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2018 edition. He also took a five-wicket haul with a hat-trick on his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions (GL) in IPL 2017.
LSG will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 with a clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
