Bangladesh created history on Wednesday when they won the opening Test of the two-match series against New Zealand by eight wickets. Bangladesh’s maiden Test win over New Zealand was an outstanding display of cricket, and several experts of the game applauded the visitors’ performance on social media.
But the Mominul Haque-led side didn’t have a great start in the second Test as they conceded 349 runs on Day 1 and could dismiss only one batter. New Zealand stand-in captain Tom Latham scored his 12th ton and was batting on 186 along with Devon Conway, who remained unbeaten on 99.
Also, during the day’s play, a funny fielding error took place, which cost Bangladesh 7 runs off one delivery. New Zealand opener Will Young was dropped by the second slip fielder Litton Das in the 27th over of their first innings.
While the ball deflected towards the boundary, the Kiwi batters ran three runs. When the red leather was thrown back to the wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan, he collected it and threw it to the bowler’s end, sensing a chance of a run-out.
Unfortunately, the ಞball missed the stumps and went through the hands of the backup fielder before racing to the boundary for four runs.
The umpire signalled a ‘7’ to the scorers, and the Christchurch crowd enjoyed the moment.
