The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel has confirmed that they are set to hold the 2020 edition of the IPL and are just waiting for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) final decision on the Men’s T20 World Cup.
The IPL has been postponed for an indefinite period due to the 💛oꦍngoing coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The T20 World Cup is slated to be played from October 18 to𝓀 November 15 in Australia this year.
“Yes we are ready to go with IPL in September-October window, everything is planned and ready. Will have to follow the guidelines and SOPs, for medical and other things,” Patel told ANI.
“Can’t say as of now that whether the crowd will be there or not. We will have to see the situation at that time but yes we are ready to hold IPL this year with or without crowd… We are waiting for the announcement from ICC on T20 World Cup. If it is not happening, we can hold IPL,” he added.
Talking about the format, Patel said BCCI and the team ow🔯ne🐭rs want to go with a full-fledged format of IPL but they will see the situation and take a call accordingly.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka officially postponed
The BCCI, on Wednesday, also informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that due to the prevailing circumstances revolving around COVID- 19 pandemic, the limited-overs series, which included 3 ODIs and 3 T20I matches will not be feasibl♊e.
However, the tour hasn’t been entirely called off and the two boards – BCCI and SLC – remain committed to the Men’s Future Tour Programme (FTP). They will now look at an alternate window for this series. According to the reports in The Island, India ma෴y tour🐠 Sri Lanka in August provided the government gives clearance.
“Although BCCI remains committed to the FTP and towards its fellow members, it will have to seek the advice from Government of India and the health regulatory authorities before taking any decision for the resumption of Cricket,” stated BCCI in a communication sent to SLC.
