Apart from leading the death toll and infection rate of COVID-19, 🦹the United States of America (USA) is currently facing a new crisis in the form of widespread outrage against White Supremacy and Racism.
The death of 46-year-old African-American, George Floyd, in police custody, has led to ma♉ssive backlash from the Black community in the USA.
It all started with Floyd tr൲ying to float an iffy $20 bill, which led to his arrest on charges of forgery. Despite cooperating with the Minneapolis law enforcement personnel, Floyd was pinned down by th🌄e officials with a knee to his neck.
It then led to Floyd gasping for his last breath with final words, ‘I Can’t Breathe’. Floyd laid unconscious on the road but still was pinned down by the official. Floyd was declared dead soon after the arrival of paramedics and an ambulance.
The entire video was documented by pedestrians passing by who were heard protesting against the inhuman treatment by the Minneapolis Police Department. Soon, the video went viral globally, sparking massive outrage against ‘racism’, with the hashtag ‘Black Lives Matter‘ trending.
The peaceful protest led to riots as the public clashed with Police officials, le🔯ading to exclusive events of arson, loot and ch🍸aos all over the USA.
Displaying solidarᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚity, West Indies cricketer, Darren Sammy, urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) for stringent measures against racism, through a series of tweets.
“For too long black people have suffered. I’m all the way in St Lucia and I’m frustrated If you see me as a teammate then you see #GeorgeFloyd Can you be part of the change by showing your support. #BlackLivesMatter,” Sammy posted.
“@ICC and all the other boards are you guys not seeing what’s happening to ppl like me? Are you not gonna speak against the social injustice against my kind. This is not only about America. This happens everyday #BlackLivesMatter now is not the time to be silent. I wanna hear u (sic),” added the former West Indian captain.
“Right now if the cricket world not standing against the injustice against people of color after seeing that last video of that foot down the next of my brother you are also part of the problem,” Sammy concluded.
