Indian opener Rohit Sharma is known as one of the most destructive batsmen of modern-day cricket. His exceptional timing, brilliant hand-eye coordination, and ability to score daddy hundreds makes him an extraordinary batsman. When Rohit gets into his zone, then there is hardly any bowler who can stop the storm of boundaries, but there is one bowler who gives the ‘Hitman’ hard time in nets.
While interacting with In🎐dian women cricket stars Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues on a YouTube chat show, Rohit revealed that speedster Mohammad Shami is one such bowler who the form𓆏er finds toughest to face. Rohit stated that Shami gets excited whenever the pacer sees a green surface even during the net session.
Rohit added that his Mumbai Indians’ teammate Jasprit Bumrah is also quite challenging to deal with in nets. The Nagpur-born batsman opened up about the competition between the two bowlers for beating him in the practice session.
“The pitches we have for net sessions are almost always green with moisture. And whenever Shami sees a green pitch, he eats extra biryani! Bumrah is also difficult, but he has been around only for two-three years,” Rohit said on the show ‘Double-Trouble’.
“Shami, I have been playing since 2013. But yeah, right now there must be a competition going on between Bumrah and Shami, on who beats the bat most, who can hit the most on the helmets,” the 33-year-old added.
The Indian deputy also recalled the 2013-14 IPL season when he took help from ace Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga in order to play wide yorkers by launchinꦑg them to six over point boundary region.
“That is my favourite shot (over the point), I used to bat in the lower-order. I requested Malinga (Lasith) to bowl me five-six yorkers even if it is on my foot. I used to take the ball on the full and try to middle it over the point boundary. From then, it has helped me play yorkers better,” Rohit added further.
