New Zealand cricket team played the final of 2019 Cricket World Cup against England at Lord’s and even after setting up the game at a tie, lost the contest. Both sides posted 241 in their allotted 50 overs before the competition went into the Super Over where once again they ended at the same score♋. However, the home team was crowned World Champions after a tied Super Over because they scored more boundaries in the match.
Recalling the well-known ultimate game of the global showpiece event, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson said that he still anticipates t🧔he proceedings of the contest and is yet 💯to understand whether the campaign was bitter or sweet.
While speaking to veteran Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz, Williamson said: “To determine whether it was high or a low takes a bit of time. And I’m still trying to work out what it was really.”
“We didn’t get the fruits, but upon reflection, it was a pretty spectacular game to be a part of but a really difficult game to understand and get around because you were a part of the game,” added Williamson.
A lot of unusual moments also happened in the match. Like, Trent Boult stepping on the boundary line while taking the catch of Ben Stokes which was declared as a six, or Martin Guptill’s throw which outstretched bat of a diving Stokes and went to the boundary, followed by Kumar Dharmasena’s error to give Stokes an extra run. Williamson gave his point of view on these incidents and said in a game there are situations which one can’t control.
“Like any game, there are things on the outside that you can’t control, when there were so many things that were out of your control, pivotal things that were so late in the match. It meant that you were trying to make sense, and it was challenging to do that,” Williamson added further.
The 29-year-old rඣated the experience of the final as amazing. He said that it was indeed a shocker if one only wishes to see the result, but overall in the large picture, it was an incredible journey.
“The [boundary count] controversy that surrounded it after that… But at the end of it, you sort of thinking what you’re here to do in the game, and that’s perhaps to take the game to better places while you have the opportunity to play. Despite being on the wrong side of the result, you still think you played your part and were perhaps able to do that. It was an amazing experience, an incredibly exciting journey if you look at the bigger picture instead of the last couple of minutes. But a real shocker of a game,” concluded the Black Caps skipper.
Williamson was honoured as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for scoring 578 runs and his outstanding leadership that led the Kiwis to their second successive World Cup final.
