Moreover, Ganguly’s recommendation soon backfired as he was stripped of the c🍃aptaincy and axed from the Indian team, after a le🍬an patch with the bat.
A series of bad decisions culminated in a humiliating World Cup exit of Team India in 2007. Soon after, Chappell was sacked f🦩rom his position, and Ravi Shastri was appointed as the team director.
However, one of the video footage during the Zimbabwe series in 2005 signified the cracks within the Indian team🐼 then.
Ahead of an ODI game, Ganguly appeared animated during a confrontational conversation with captain Rahul Dravid and Greg Cꩲhappell.
Many Indian cricketers disclosed about the dark phase in Indian cricket quite extensiv🦹ely through interactions with the media or in the biographies.
Reportedly, during the heated conversation, Dravid backed Yuvraj Singh in the batting lineup while Ganguly recommended Mohammed Kaif. Greg then told Ganguly if he dropped himself from the eleven, both Yuvꦉraj and Kaifꦇ can feature in the lineup together.
“Because of Greg Chappell, the dressing room was divided🔜. Rahul Dravid is the type of person who wants e✃verything to go smoothly. He knew that things were going wrong, but he had no courage to revolt and tell him (Chappell) that he was doing wrong,” Ganguly told Headlines Today a few years back.
“Obviously, whatever hap🤡pened with me a year ago in Z🐓imbabwe and the kind of furore that followed any captain would think that I peacefully play cricket which is right also. But if your coach has been committing mistakes after mistake,” he added.
Further, Ganguly revealed about the incident of Chappell telling Virender Sehwag about him not deser𝄹v𒈔ing a place in the Indian side, on his return.
“He had told Virender Sehwag during the World Cup (2007) tour that he should not have been there in the team, but since ‘your captain supported you, you were included in the team’,” concluded Ganguly.
