India Women’s team honors Sri Lanka Cricket legend Shashikala Siriwardena on her retirement

The veteran Sri Lanka women’s cricketer, Shashikala Siriwardena, retired from all forms of the game after playing her international career’s last match against Bangladesh in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup.

Siriwardena finished her car𒐪eer on a high note as her team defeated Bangladesh by nine w🌊ickets. In 118 One-Day International (ODI) matches, the Colombo-born scored 3577 runs and claimed 124 wickets. When it comes to T20Is, then in 77 games, Siriwardena amassed 1499 runs and took 70 wickets.

Siriwardena is the only Sri Lankan woman to register 100 wickets as well as 2000 runs in Women’s ODI. The all-rounder grabbed 4-16 in her last match of the 17-year–old international career. She also earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award in her last game.

The Indian women’s team, who haven’t lost a single contest in the ongoing competition, felicitated the legendary Siriwardena on March 01, thanking the great player for her contribution in the development of women’s cricket.

Team India gifted a signe💃d jersey with best wishes to Siriwardena.

“Thank you for your contribution towards women’s cricket. You are a legend and a true sportsperson. Congratulations on a wonderful career, and Best wishes for all your future Endeavors!!” the message on Jersey read.

India’s star cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues shared the moment on Twitter and posted a few pictures.

“Thank you for doing what you do best for 17 Years and inspiring so many more to take up the sport. More than cricket, you’ll be remembered for the amazing person that you are (: All the best as you begin your new journey @Shashikalacrick see you on the other side! ” tweeted Jemimah.
