WATCH: When a kite stopped play during India vs Australia first ODI at Wankhede

There was a bizarre moment during the first ODI between India and Australia with a kite causing a brief delay before the end of the home team’s innings.

India was celebrating the ‘Festival of Kites’, and at Wankhede with the score 255-9 at the end of the 49th over following Kuldeep Yadav’s dismissal, the play was stopped for a few minutes when a purple and orange kite fell onto the field.

The kite was picked up by Australia’s David Warner who was then shown by the broadcasters speaking to the umpire and pointing at the sky. Bowler Kane Richardson also appeared bemused by the kite delay.

When Richardson was able to continue bowling again he dismissed Shami who hit t🧜he ball right up in the air and into the hands of w𝕴icketkeeper Alex Carey.

Virat Kohli & Co. were bundled out for 255. It was a dramatic collapse as they lost their last nౠine wickets for just 121 runs.

In reply, Warner and Aaron Finch smashed Indian bowlers all over the ground as Australia registered a comprehensive win with 74 balls to spare.

During the post-match press conference, Warner also revealed that he told Jasprit Bumrah, who snapped the kite – it belongs to some poor kid.

“Well it is the kite festival. I heard so it’s very bizarre, it got caught on Spidercam and I thought it was a little bit dangerous and Bumrah decided to come out and just snap it and I said “that’s some poor kid’s kite,” but yes it was very bizarre, very bizarre,” Warner said.
