The South African cricket has struggled a lot ever since AB de Villiers announced the retirement. Fans have witnessed his absence, and more often than not, they keep on wishing that De Villಞiers should make a return to the international circuit.
Recently, when former South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher took charge as theꦰ head coach of Cricket South Africa, he requested ABD to think one more time about his retirement and make a comeback.
Now, the 35-year-old has finally come out and expressed his interest in making an international comeback with South Africa at this year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
After scoring 40 from 32 in his Big Bash League (BBL) ‘s debut for Brisbane Heat against Adelaide Strikers, De Villiers said that he would love to come out of retirement for the mega event.
“I would love to. I’ve been talking to ‘Bouch’ (new South Africa coach Mark Boucher), (new director of cricket) Graeme Smith and (captain) Faf (du Plessis) back home, we’re all keen to make it happen. There’s a lot that needs to happen before that becomes reality,” De Villiers was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“It’s a long way away still, and plenty can happen – there’s the IPL coming up, I’ve still got to be in form at that time. So, I’m thinking of throwing my name in the hat and hoping that everything will work out,” he added.
Before the 2019 World Cup, De Villiers did try to return to the team, but the nation’s cricketing body rejected his offer and preferred to stay with their pre-decided squad.
“It’s not a guarantee, once again. I don’t want to disappoint myself or other people, so, for now, I’m just going to try and keep a low profile, try and play the best possible cricket that I can and then see what happens towards the end of the year,” De Villiers added further.
The former South-African skipper bid adieu to internat✃ional cricket in May 2018. He played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs, and 78 T20Is in which he scored 20,014 runs.
