IND vs WI 1st ODI: Virat Kohli miffed after umpire’s late referral to give Ravindra Jadeja run-out

Controversy and drama surrounded Ravindra Jadeja’s run-out dismissal in the first ODI between India and West Indies at MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Sunday (December 15).

The incident happened in the 48th over of India’s innings when Jadeja tried to sneak a quick single off Keemo Paul. There was no doubt that Jadeja didn’t make his ground in time, but confusion prevailed over the nature of appeal and the process followed by the umpires.

The fielder who directly hit the stumps at the bowler’s end, Roston Chase, made a proper appeal to the on-field umpire Shaun George. The umpire, however, didn’t immediately check with the third umpire.

Before delivering the next ball, Kieron Pollard, who was possibly alerted by the West Indies dressing room, asked the umpire to check Jadeja’s dismissal. After further delay and confusion, the third umpire was called in, and the right decision was made.

The incident, meanwhile, made Virat Kohli fu༺rious as the Indian skipper left his seat and walke♏d towards the field angrily. Kohli, however, did not enter the ground as Jadeja walked back to the dressing room.

It must be noted that neither the laws of the game nor the ICC playing conditions have set a time limit for an on-field umpire to check run-out decisions 🅺with the TV umpire.

India scored 287/8 in their stipula♛ted 50 overs batting🔯 first.
