WATCH: Deepak Chahar’s Hat-trick heroics against Bangladesh in Nagpur T20I

India pacer Deepak Chahar is just seven games into his international♏ T20 career but has produced the best-ever figures in the shortest format.

The 27-year-old quick took 6/7 against Bangladesh in the deciding game of the three-game T20I series to claim the World record, edging Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis’ previous best of 6/8 against Zimbabwe in 2012.

Chahar also became the first India men’s bowler to take a hat-trick in a T20 international, wrapping up the Bangladesh tail with the achievement.

The hat-trick was spread over two overs and began when Chahar removed Shafiul Islam on the last ball of the 18th over. When the seamer came on to bowl the last one, he wasted no time in picking up Mustafizur Rahman and bowling Aminul Islam with a yorker to signal the end of Bangladesh’s chase. He took just 20 balls to complete the hat-trick.

On the back of Chahar’s effort, Bangladesh, who was asked to chase down 176 in their stipulated 20 overs were bundled out for 144.

India won the series 2-1.

Apart from Chahar, the only other Indian to claim a hat-trick in the shortest format is women’s left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht.
