Indian middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari scored his maiden Test century during the second Test against West Indies at Sabina Pak in Kingston on Saturday.
Hanuma came in to bat after Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal on the first day and remained unbeaten on 42 at the close of play. Despite losing Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja early on the morning of the second day, Vihari added a 122-run stand for the eighth-wicket with Ishant Sharma as India posted a commanding score of 416 in their first innings.
Later in the day, Jasprit Bumrah (6/16) produced a lethal opening spell and di🗹smantled the hosts by picking up the first five wickets. Three of these wickets came off successive deliveries in theꦛ ninth over to leave West Indies tottering at 87 for seven at stumps.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Congratulations to Hanuma Vihari for s✅coring his maiden test century in th🌳e second test against the West Indies and Jasprit Bumrah for claiming a hat-trick and becoming only the third Indian bowler to achieve the feat in tests.

One great strength of Hanuma Vihari is his patience. He seems to unde🌃rstand his game and his limitations very well & forces bowlers to bowl to his strength. A thoroughly deserved first test century in challenging conditions👏🏻👏ꦇ🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

One should learn how to make the most of opportunity from great 100!
And what a bowler! So reliable & consistent. A hattrick always makes it more special!
Probably the b♒est Indian fast bowler from India?— Saiyami Kher (@SaiyamiKher)
you are a star . Low ๊profile high delivery . That’s how I like it. Keep batting mate !!! Well done .

Whenever India chooses to play 6 batsmen in the XI, the spot is sealed by Vihari. Superb application….batting with the tail. Battling the second new ball. He’s passed the tests in flying colours. 💯

A first test hundred. So so special. Played for the side's needs in the previous test and see, life does reward you sometimes for your selflessness. Well played

BOYS, WATCH INNINGS IF YOU WANT TO UND💎ERSTAND THE MEANING OF CONSTRUCTING AN INNINGS IN TEST CRICKET !! INNINGS OF VERY HIGH CALIBER !! PATIENCE , GRIND & CONCENTRATION

Congratulations♛ on ur maiden hundred champ💯👏👏👏👏🇮🇳 c💧hampion stuff many more to come 😊💪
— Rahul Sharma (@ImRahulSharma3)
Hanuma Vihari looks assured in defence & has the ability to build an innings after reading the situation. Batsman at 6 has to have partnerships with lower order batsmen. Vihari is doing it nicely without exposing them. Like VVS , he 🍸too has very good big match temperament.
