Hanuma Vihari dedicates maiden Test century to his father, who he lost at the age of 12

On Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies at Sabina Park in Kingston, Indian middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari scored his maiden Test century.

Vihari, who missed his hundred (93) in the first Test, played a brilliant knock of 111 runs, hitting 16 boundaries. He along with Ishant Sharma (57) added 11ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ2 runs for the 8th wicket, guiding the team to 🐟a score 416 runs in the first innings.

In the post-match interview, Vihari said, “When I was batting overnight at 42, I didn’t sleep really well. You know, my thoughts were obviously running on how to get a big score today. And yeah, I am happy that I could cross that three-figure mark.

And credit should go to Ishant as well, the way he batted, he was there. Without him, I don’t think I could have got that hundred so a lot of credit should go to him. And I am really happy that I could get my first hundred, especially on those conditions, it gives me a lot of satisfaction,” he added.

It was an emotional moment for Vihari as he dedicated 🎃his maiden ton to his dad.

Actually, my dad passed away when I was 12, so ever since I have decided when I play international cricket, I want to dedicate my first hundred to my dad. And today is an emotional day, and I hope he is proud where ever he is, and I am really happy that I could achieve it,” told Vihari.
