India captain Virat Kohli on Sunday smashed his 42nd ODI century in the second one-dayer against the West Indies, and in the process surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become the second-highest run-scorer for India in the 50 overs format.
Ganguly amassed 11,221 runs in 297 ODI innings while Kohli took just 229 innings to go past the former skipper.
Kohli, 30, is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has a whopping 18,426 runs to his name which he accumulated in 452 innings.
Kohli is the seventh-highest run-scorer in ODIs overall behind Jacques Kallis, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Tendulkar.
During the course of his knock (120 runs off 125 balls) against the Windies at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, Kohli also broke Javed Miandad’s 26-year-old record.

Virat Kohli has never gone more than five half centuries without converting to a century. He was on the cusp of it today, but No 42 was inevitable. Privelidged to be around to see the master of modern ODI cricket batting.
