India inflicted an embarrassing 318-run defeat on the West Indi꧂es in the first Test as Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the hosts with a five-wicket haul after Ajinkya Rahane scored his first century in two years, on Sunday.
West Indies were chasi🎉ng a mammoth 419-run target, but the Indian pacers led by Bumrah demolished the hosts, who were bow♒led out for a mere 100 in 26.5 overs in the final session of the fourth day.
It was a Bumrah show i๊n perfect weather conditions as he𝐆 sent the wickets cart-wheeling thrice during his eight-over spell in which he conceded just seven runs.
The win also made Virat Kohli the joint-most successful Indian Test captain along with MS Dhoni as it was his 27th win as skipper in the longest format of the game. Kohli is now the most successful overseas Test captain for India as he went past Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 11 wins on the road.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Emphatic victory for India! Exc💦ellent effort by our pacers, especially in the 1st innings and in the 2nd innings.
— Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt)
Happy for Rahane. But Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings was absolutely unplayable. Fiist Asian bowler to take a 5-for in all 4 countries – Australia, South Africa, England and West Indies .

India do a wonderful job of managing Jasper Bumrah’s workload so far in his career. What a wonderful exponent he is. Archer, Afridi, Rabada, Cummins, Lo💖ckie Ferguson. Quite exciting for world cricket!!!
— Ian Raphael Bishop (@irbishi)
J🏅aꦕsprit Bumrah is the first Indian bowler in Test history to take five-wicket hauls in Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies.
And he does it on just his first tours to this countries and he's played only 11 Tests yet!
