Umpires Joel Wilson anꦆd Chris Gaffaney will not b♛e allowed to participate any further in the Ashes.
The first three Tests witnessed numerous umpiring errors. Wilson got eight of his dec🌺isions wrong at Edgbaston, while Gaffaney had seven decisions♒ overturned at Headingley.
Veteran Marais Erasm🀅us and rookie Ruchira Palliyaguruge will be the new umpires in the fourth Test at🔯 Old Trafford, beginning on September 4, Wednesday. The third umpire in charge will be Kumar Dharmasena.
While Erasmus has also been appointed for the fifth Test at the Oval, ꦛDharmasena and Palღliyaguruge will be swapping roles in the same.
Umpiring h♓as been a huge talking point this series due to several on-field decisions being ove♐rturned by the Decision Review System (DRS).
Wilson committed a massive error in the third Test when he failed to give Englaಞnd hero Ben Stokes out LBW off Nathan Lyon’s ball.
L♌yon let out a loud appeal but in vain. Australia had used up all their reviews and hence, couldn’t chal🍃lenge the decision. DRS later displayed that the batsman would have been out as the ball was hitting middle and leg.
Australia could have won the match and retained the Ashes, but that was not to be. Instead, Stokes guided England to an unbelievable win.
The firsꦑt three Tests were marred by poor umpiring. According to The Australian, out of the 50 decisions that went on to be reviewed, 38% of them wer💙e overturned. To be precise, 19 decisions proved to be incorrect.
England will take on Australia in the fourth Test that gets underway from Sep♉tember 4 to 8 at Old Trafford, Manchester.
