Australia took a two-point lead in the multi-format Women’s Ashes series, winning the first ODI by two wickets in a tense low-scoring game at Grace Road, Leicester on Tuesday.
After Ellyse Perry’s three-for in the opening spell pinned England down to 177, opener Alyssa Healy hit a brisk 66 to set up Australia’s chase that wasn’t without roadblocks but the visitor’s lower-order held their nerves better to win the series opener.
Sarah Taylor’s lightning-fast stumping
In the 18th over of Australia’s chase, England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor executed some “amazing glovework” to dismiss the 28-year-old Perry. It all happened on the wide delivery bowled by Natalie Sciver.
