IPL 2020: SunRisers Hyderabad appoint new head coach after parting ways with Tom Moody

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Thursday, revealed that the Orange Army has parted ways with Tom Moody as the head coach. The former Australian cricketer was the coach when the SunRisers won the 🔥2016 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Moody will now be replaced by Trevor Bayliss, who led England to their maiden ICC Cricket World Cup triumph at Lord’s on July 14 (Sunday) in a thrilling final against New Zealand.

Bayliss’ term with the English side will be over after the Ashes and the 56-year-old has already confirmed that he doesn’t wish to extend his tenure.

“Trevor Bayliss, England’s WC Winning coach, has been appointed as the new Head Coach of SunRisers Hyderabad. #SRHCoachTrevor,” SunRisers wrote in their social media post.

The IPL franchise added: “After very careful consideration, the SunRisers franchise has decided to take a new direction with the Head Coaching role and will be parting ways with the services of Tom Moody. Trevor Bayliss, England’s 2019 World Cup-winning coach, has been appointed Head Coach of SunRisers Hyderabad. Trevor has already won IPL trophies with KKR and has also won the Big Bash League and Champions League with Sydney Sixers. He is a proven winner and we feel that his successful track record will be ideal in taking SunRisers Hyderabad forward.

“We would like to thank Tom Mody, who has made an enormous impact with the franchise, helping us achieve 5 playoff appearances over the past 7 years, including a much-treasured championship in 2016. We would also like to thank him for his work ethic and leadership over our journey and wish him all the success moving forward.”

Bayliss’ pedigree as a multiple-title winning coach is unparalleled and is the big reason why more than one IPL franchise was trying to get him on board. It is understood Kolkata Knight Riders, too, had initiated talks with him, as did Rajasthan Royals.

The 2020 edition will be Bayliss’ second stint in the IPL, having already coached Knight Riders from 2012 to 2015, during which time the franchise won the title twice.

Unde𝓀r Bayliss, England won the 2015 Ashes 3-2, reached the World T20 final in 2016, became No. 1 side in the ODI rankings and won the 2019 World Cup. He had also won the Big Bash League with Sydney Sixers in 2010-11 and had also coached Sri Lanka, who reached the 2011 World Cup final during his tenure.
