CWC 2019: Twitter gets emotional as Chris Gayle bids farewell to World Cup

Chris Gayle played the last match of𒐪 his fifth and final World Cup against Afghanistan in Leeds on Thursday. The West Indies legend has decided to end his international career after playing the home series against India next month.

Gayle h🌱as amassed 1186 runs at a strike-rate of෴ 90.53 and an average of 35.93 in 34 innings across five World Cups. He also took 16 wickets with his part-time off-spin.

“Been a privilege and honour to represent West Indies in five WCs, disappointed to end without making it to the final four. Lot has happened behind the scenes to get here and be here, that’s fantastic.

“Would’ve loved to lift the trophy, but it didn’t happen but at the same time it was fun, enjoyed it. All the guys rallied around me, got the support of the youngsters. Must commend the staff for the work ethics they’ve put in. Words can’t explain my feeling at the moment honestly,” Gayle told the reporters after West Indies beat Afghanistan by 23 runs in their last outing at the 2019 World Cup.
