ICC World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan doubtful for India’s next two games

Shikhar Dhawan, the left-handed opening batsman, will undergo precautionary scans on Tuesday to determine the extent of injury on his swoll♕en left thumb.

Dhawan, who was the ‘Player of the Match’ in India’s World Cup win over Australia at the Oval on Sunday, played through pain after being hit on the thumb by a rising delivery from fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile.

He looked in considerable pain but carried on to score 11🌃𓄧7 off 109 balls.

However, Dhawan didn’t take the field due to the injury and Ravindra Jadeja fielded in his place for the entire 50 overs.

The reports in Hindi daily ‘Dainik Jagran’ have cleared that Team India physio Patrick Farhart will take a call on Dhawan’s participation in the upcoming games after the scans. As of now, Dhawan has a taping on his thumb.

If Dhawan’s injury turned out to be serious, then he may miss next two World games i.e. against New Zealand and Pakistan on June 13 and June 16 respectively, the report added.
