World Cup 2019: ICC fine Virat Kohli for “excessive appealing and charging aggressively towards the umpire”

India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for advancing towards umpire Aleem Dar i♚n an aggressive manner while appealing for a leg-before decision during the World Cup game against Afghanistan on Saturday. One demerit point has also been added to his record, taking his tally to two.

Kohli was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in Southampton and Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Excessive appealing during an International Match”.

There was no need of a formal hearing as Kohli accepted the sanctionꦆ from match referee Chris Broad.

It was hi🐻s second offence since the revised Code was adopted in September 2016, with him having copped the first point during the Pretoria Test against South Africa on January 15, 2018.

Level one breaches carry a maximum punishment of a 50 per cent match fee deduction and two demerit points. If a play𓆏er accrues four demerit points within a 24🌱-month period, they will receive a ban.
