Australia’s Usman Khawaja has been cleared of a broken jaw with scans confirming that the opening batsman avoided serious injury when he was struck on the helmet by a nasty bouncer from the West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell.
It is also expected that Khawaja will be fit for Saturday’s practice match against England despite being taken to hospital after suffering the blow during Australia’s win over West Indies on Wednesday.
Russell’s bouncer cannoned into the side of Khawaja’s helmet and left the Aussie batsman visibly rattled. Khawaja was taken off the field by Australia’s medical team; the left-hander was retired hurt on five from seven deliveries.

Khawaja, who is the world’s leading ODI run-scorer in 2019, played and missed three times against Russell before wearing his fastest delivery of the match.
