IPL 2019 – WATCH: Hardik Pandya evades getting out as ball races to the boundary after hitting stumps

According to the cricket rule book, a batsman is not out when the ball hits the stumps. He is out only when bails are dislodged, or wickets are removed from t🐠he ground.

on Wednesday, a ball turned out lucky for Hardik Pandya as it raced to the boundary after hitting the stumps. During the IPL clash between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede stadium, Hardik was lucky to evade a dismissal as bails didn’t get dislodged despite the ball hitting the stumps.

This all happened during the 13th over of first innings. On the very first ball delivered by KXIP fast bowler Hardus Viljoen, the ball touched the stumps while passing through Pandya’s legs but went away towards the fine leg boundary.

The on-field umpire awarded it as 5 wides in fಞavour of the Mumbai Indians but replays showed that ♉the ball actually had hit the stumps and the bails remained undisturbed.

Here’s the video:

In a match that went down the wire and the result was only decided in the final ball, such instances become highly debatable. While the bails remained intact, the umpire’s decision to call it a wide gave Mumbai extra runs in the tricky chase of 198 runs.

Also, Kieron Pollard’s 83 overshadowed KL Rahul’s maiden IPL century as the stand-in Mumbai Indians skipper produced one of his finest knocks in the history of the tournament to guide his team to a third consecutive win of the season.
