Jos Buttler, Chris Gayle smash brutal centuries in a record-breaking ODI match

Numerous records were broken during an extraordinary ODI match between England and West Indies at National Cricket Stadium in Grenada on Wednesday

England hit a world record 24 sixes in their innings of 418 for 6, highlighted Jos Buttler’s brutal knock of 150 (77) and captain Eoin Morgan’s 103 off 88 balls.

Buttler cleared the bou🍨ndary on 12 occasions, as England piled on an incredible 154 runs in the last 10 overs. He scored 105 runs in that period alone, going from 51 to his century in just 15 balls.

Needing to post the second highest run-chase of all time, the home side appeared to be in with a chance at 389/6 in the 48th over, requiring 30 ru💫ns from 17 balls, before Adil Rashid picked up four wickets in five balls to secure a 29 run victory for the visitors.

Chris Gayle, the self-proclaimed “Universe Boss”, slammed 162 fr🌸om just 97 deliveries, with 14 sixes, just two short of the𝓰 world record he already shares with Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers.

Gayle’s 162 is the highest individual score in an ODI chase for the Windies. Brian Lara’s 153 in the 1992 Sharjah ODI is the only other 150+ score for the Windies in ODI chases.

The innings also took him past 10,000 ODI runs, while he became the first player in history to hit 500 internationa🐟l sixes across all formats of the ga♏me.

England now leads the five-match series 2-1 and are hoping to𒐪 win the 10th straight bilateral ODI series.
