James Neesham banters with fans after being outsmarted by MS Dhoni in Wellington

James Neesham hasn’t lost his sense of humour despite being the unfortunate victim of one of the worst dismissals of all time.

Neesham’s innings of much promise ended in bizarre circumstances during the Kiwis 35-run defeat against India at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Sunday.

Neesham, who has even taken the time to banter with fans over the strange dismissal, smashed 44 runs off 32 balls before he was bluffed by India veteran wicket-keeper MS Dhoni with his smartness.

The left-hander missed a flighted deliv🌼ery bowled by Kedar Jadhav and it hit him on the back pad. ♉All the Indian players appealed but umpire said not out as the impact was outside off. The ball then deflected behind the stumps and Neesham came out of the crease having no idea where the ball was.

Dhoni was quick to react to the situation and he immediately picked up the ball and flicked it onto the stumps. It was a direct hit. Umpire then referred it to the third umpire and replay showed that Neesham was well short of the crease.

Neesham has copped stacks of “advice” on social media following his epic fail.

Neesham, who is well known for his clever and witty posts on social media, showed he hadn’t lost his sense of humour over the bizarre runout and was happy to engage in a bit of banter with fans post-match.

He posted: “Thanks for all the advice. Figure out where the ball is, then run. Gotcha.”

Most fans saw the funny side of the post but the Black Caps all-rounder fired back at one who tried to tell Neesham what the cricketer had ꦚse𒆙en.

The fan wrote: “But the replay showed that you did sight the ball but were perplexed as to what to do next. Brain-fade?”

To which Neesham replied: “Oh the replay showed that I saw the ball? Amazing cameras they have these days to see my eyeballs.”
