In the first ODI between South Africa and India at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban, Team India captain Virat Kohli wasted the only review after consulting vice-captain Rohit Sharma.
It happened in the 36th over of the South African innings when India pacer Jasprit Bumrah attempted a yorker against Faf Du Plessis and ended up spraying it down the leg side. MS Dhoni guarded it behind the wickets and while both the bowler and keeper weren’t interested in an appeal Kohli looked very excited and came running across the pitch appealing.
Rohit also heard something and convinced the captain to take the review. Dhoni who is considered a master of DRS calls also remained silent and disinterested. But Virat who always runs on instinct decided to take the review and replays suggested that the ball was nowhere near the bat; eve﷽ntually, it was a referral in vain.
Twitterati trolled Kohli asking him to rely on Dhoni ꩲfor the DRS calls and n𒅌ot go by his own instinct as the veteran gets it right more often than not.
