New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has joined the small group of international spin bowlers who have taken a wicket on a “carrom ball”.
The left-arm spinner dismissed the Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman for 54 with a ball which clearly sur🦩prised the batsman and the 🍎TV commentators.
The ball didn’t revolve, pitched outside Zaman’s leg stump and turned like an offspinner to hit his leg stump. Zaman couldn’t figure out well, which is why the turn of the delivery took his wicket.
The normal Santner delivery would have turned from the oꦰff to leg side to the lefthander.
Replays showed Santner had folded his middle finger behind the ball. As it headed towards Zaman, it didn’t revolve like it usually would.

While bowling the “carrom ball”, the bowler uses his middle finger for turning the ball around. This version has been performed by the likes of Ajanta Mendis (Sri Lanka) and Ravichandran Ashwin (India).
