Virender Sehwag has backed MS Dhoni when some of the former cricketers suggested that the wicket-keeper batsman shou♉ld retire from T20Is.
After India lost to New Zealand by 40 runs in the second T20I, Dhoni had to face a lot of criticism for his k🍒nock.
He made 49 runs from 37 balls in the match but failed to rotate the ꦓstrike when Virat Kohli was bat🗹ting with him and was scoring quick runs.
After Dhoni’s innings, former Indian cricketers including VVS Laxman and Ajit Agarkar had opined that “bid adieu to the shortest format of the game and vacant a position for a youngster.”
Meanwhile, Sehwag disagrees with what his former teammates feel and he has stood by Dhoni’s side asserting that “team needs him”.
“Team India needs MS Dhoni at the moment, even in T20 cricket. He will step down at the right time. He will never block the way for any young cricketer,” Sehwag said.
Theꦕ former opener put forth his view and said that Dho⛦ni should himself realize his role in the team and the team management should also tell him what they want from him.
“Dhoni should realize his role in the team. He has to change the momentum early while chasing a strong total. He has to score from ball one and the team management should make him understand this point,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by PTI.
