The extras in the team usually help their teammates on the field by carrying drinks during a break. It is also the medium the coaching staff uses to send across a message to the players. But in the ongoing ODI series between Sri Lanka and India, a couple of girls can be seen making the൩ir way to the ground and helping the players with drinks and napkins.
The incident happened during the second innings of 4th ODI as well, when Virat Kohli was defending ๊the mammoth total of 375 runs against the host𝓀s.
During Sri Lanka’s chase, on field umpires called for the mandatory drinks break after the first hour. The reserve players Ajinkya Rahane and Yuzvendra Chahal brought the drinks for their mates but along with them few girls also strode out. Even the Indian players appeared to be surprised. But eventually, the break was important for them and had time to replenish themselves to move forward with theღ game.
And while the Sri Lankan team’s form has forced the fans to skip the games, it looks like the cricket officials in Sri Lanka cricket are trying their best to draw the crowd to the ground again. Perhaps that was the reason why an unusual sight was witnessed on the grounds with girls serving the drinks during the matches.
Also, a Sri Lanka Cricket official has revealed the reason behind the board’s decision.
“Ground must look beautiful,” the board officials were quoted as saying by the Daily Observer.
Bhairav Shanth, the Co-founder of the ITW – the event management company overseeing the match in this series, stated that they wanted to do ‘something new’. “We wanted to do something new to the old tradition and this idea struck to us….”, Bhairav said.
